Boeing first offered America West 6 757s that were surplus. The fleet would eventually stabilize at 13 examples by 1998.
The 757 was originally destined to replace the 747 in Hawaii service, and limited ETOPS work was in progress before service to Hawaii ceased in 1993.
Aircraft 908-910 were first certified for ETOPS operations, to fly to Hawaii, in early 2005. Aircraft 901-906 followed later in 2005.
